Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (3)
  1. $8,948 spent. Hut: Haines Huts and Trails completed the construction and officially opened the first public-use backcountry cabin in the Haines Area. This project promotes outdoor recreation, environmental education, and community wellness by providing safe, accessible shelter for hikers, skiers, hunters and other outdoor users. Over 100 individuals volunteered during the construction process, supporting our mission to increase access for all to outdoor experiences in Southeast Alaska.
  2. $1,975 spent. Nordic Skiing: Throughout the winter season, Haines Huts and Trails provides regular grooming of community Nordic Ski trails. This includes grooming trails for both the Klukwan and Haines elementary, middle and high school students to use as part of their outdoor education. These efforts ensure safe, high-quality skiing for both recreational users and students. Given the limited daylight and inclement weather of Southeast Alaska, groomed trails provide the people of Haines with the safest option for outdoor recreation, whether they are skiing, walking or biking.
  3. $2,964 spent. Trail Maintenance: Out organization started a trails maintenance program that enables volunteers to perform maintenance and improvement work on multi-use trails throughout Haines. Volunteer crews and staff remove hazards, clear brush, and repair damaged infrastructure to make the trails that the majority of our community uses safer and more accessible. These efforts help preserve trail integrity, support year-round public access, and reduce environmental impact in heavily used recreation areas.
