What it says it does

The main exempt purpose of Artisans4Hope is to offer complimentary textile art language and sewing classes to refugees in Boise Idaho. We teach artisans to craft handmade items such as clothing blankets bags and accessories aiding them in sales. Artisans earn a 60% commission. We have a modestly compensated Executive Director and one refugee overseeing quality control. A paid volunteer maintains sewing machines and oversees alterations. An attendant manages the sales shop and other duties.

Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (3)
  1. $33,873 spent. Teaching the refugees to make quality items that can be sold while also teaching and helping them with English. We currently help around 40 or so refugees through the year but this number varies. We have a sales shop where the items can be sold. The expenses here go towards materials and commissions paid to the artisans refugees.
  2. $1,300 spent. Involving the artisans refugees in public sales events conventions and other opportunities to integrate into our culture better. The number of refugees involved here is maybe around half at best as it up to them to commit. We encourage them to help with sales opportunities as they can. Expenses are generally marketing and advertising events
  3. $3,687 spent. Clothing alterations - a fairly new part of A4H providing opportunities to learn and make commissions on repairing clothing and other items. Around a half dozen refugees are currently helping learning and profiting from this program. Expenses are mostly commissions paid to the artisans refugees.
