Financial health

We do not score finances when yearly spending is very small or the return has too little detail. The ratios stop meaning much at that size.

Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (1)
  1. $12,204 spent. The Philadelphia Guild of Handweavers (PGHW) is a volunteer-led and volunteer-managed nonprofit dedicated to fostering the fiber arts through education, outreach, and community connection. We have no paid staff, and all of our programs are coordinated by a committed team of volunteers. In FY2024, PGHW generated $52,976 in program revenue and incurred $12,204 in direct program costs, resulting in a surplus of $40,772. This surplus allowed us to cover our general operating expenses, including insurance, utilities, and maintenance of our Guild House in Manayunk. 1. Education: Classes and Workshops PGHW offered a variety of fiber arts classes and workshops open to the public, including instruction in weaving, spinning, dyeing, sewing, and more. These programs were led by skilled instructors and served participants ranging from beginners to experienced fiber artists. Program revenue from classes and workshops totaled $17,228, with direct expenses of $10,709 for instructor fees and materials. 2. Outreach and Community Engagement As part of our mission to promote the fiber arts more broadly, the Guild engaged in numerous outreach activities, including fiber arts demonstrations and hands-on programming in partnership with local schools, libraries, and community organizations. PGHW received $2,410 in stipends and other income for this work and incurred $279 in expenses. A $13,780 grant from the Philadelphia Cultural Fund helped support and expand our outreach programs in underserved areas, ensuring that the fiber arts remain accessible to all. 3. Member Services and Guild Programs With over 500 active members, PGHW provided a wide range of services including 18 active Special Interest Groups (SIGs), access to a lending library, equipment rentals, monthly programs, and events such as Fiberpalooza. Membership dues generated $14,975 in revenue. Additional proceeds from event registrations, rentals, and program-related sales contributed to the overall strength of our member-driven programming.
