Upon her passing in 1954, Sarah M James, a member of the VIA, bequeathed her 17-room residence and its contents to the VIA, establishing this home as the center of VIA activity. As membership grew and the VIA took on more projects, an auditorium complex was added and dedicated in 1964. The James-Lorah Memorial Home Committee is tasked with the preservation, restoration, and management of the James-Lorah Memorial Home and its contents, auditorium and grounds. The home itself is a treasured house-museum commemorating the families who have occupied it. Today it continues to contribute to the vibrant life of the community and the VIA. Numerous community organizations, along with the VIA, use the auditorium for various functions and meetings. The house is open for historic and educaitonal tours
