What it says it does

SAIDIANA IS A NONPROFIT DEDICATED TO EMPOWERING WOMEN IN LUBUMBASHI, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO. WE OPERATE IN AN ECONOMY WHERE IT'S TYPICAL FOR SOMEONE TO EARN 2 PER DAY IF THEY EVEN HAVE EMPLOYMENT. WE PROVIDE SMALL GRANTS TO COLLECTIVES OF WOMEN WITH DRIVE AND DREAMS TO ENABLE THEM TO START, IMPROVE OR EXPAND MICROBUSINESSES. THE WOMEN WE SERVE HAVE NO OTHER ACCESS TO CAPITAL. WE ALSO OPERATE TWO SEWING TRADE SCHOOLS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ANOTHER NONPROFIT, CONGO CHILDREN TRUST, AT WHICH WE TRAIN WOMEN IN SEWING AND BASIC BUSINESS SKILLS TO GIVE THEM A LIVELIHOOD. ADDITIONALLY WE OPERATE A HAIR DRESSER TRAINING PROGRAM. BY GIVING WOMEN THE OPPORTUNITIES TO EARN BETTER LIVINGS, THEY HAVE HOPE FOR A BETTER FUTURE, CONTRIBUTE VALUABLE GOODS AND SERVICES TO THEIR COMMUNITIES, AND ARE ABLE TO TAKE BETTER CARE OF THEIR CHILDREN.

Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (4)
  1. $20,162 spent. TAKE-AWAY RESTAURANT - THE WOMEN BENEFICIARIES SECURED A SUITABLE AND SERENE LOCATION TO LAUNCH THEIR TAKEAWAY RESTAURANT AND PROMPTLY ACQUIRED THE NECESSARY EQUIPMENT TO BEGIN OPERATIONS. THEIR DETERMINATION TO BUILD SOMETHING LASTING WAS EVIDENT FROM THE START. FINANCIAL RESULTS (6 MONTHS AFTER LAUNCH): THE GROUP RECORDED A TOTAL PROFIT OF 6,210, WITH EACH OF THE FIVE MEMBERS RECEIVING 1,260. OF EACH MEMBER'S SHARE, 345 WAS HELD IN THE GROUP SAVINGS AND 825 WAS REINVESTED IN REAL ESTATE IMPROVEMENTS - INCLUDING FURNITURE, PLATES, AND A FREEZER. COMMUNITY IMPACT: THE INCOME FROM THIS PROJECT HAS HAD A DIRECT AND POSITIVE EFFECT ON THE FAMILIES OF THE MEMBERS. AS MAMAN BIBISHE, PRESIDENT OF THE GROUP, NOTED, THE FUNDS RECEIVED MADE A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE IN COVERING THEIR CHILDREN'S SCHOOL FEES - A TESTAMENT TO THE TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT. CHALLENGE: THE GROUP NAVIGATED THE DIFFICULT CHALLENGE OF CURRENCY INSTABILITY. THE DEPRECIATION OF THE DOLLAR - WHILE LOCAL MARKET PRICES CONTINUE TO RISE - HAS MADE THE PROCUREMENT OF STORAGE GOODS INCREASINGLY COSTLY. DESPITE THIS, THE WOMEN HAVE REMAINED COMMITTED AND RESOURCEFUL.
  2. $20,162 spent. MILL PROJECT - THIS PROJECT INVOLVED THE PURCHASE OF A MILL FOR CORN TRANSFORMATION, PROVIDING THE BENEFICIARY WOMEN WITH A SUSTAINABLE INCOME- GENERATING TOOL. FINANCIAL RESULTS (3 MONTHS OF ACTIVITY): THE WOMEN TOTALED A PROFIT OF 2,500. OF THIS AMOUNT, 750 WAS ALLOCATED TO ADD TO MERCHANDISE INVENTORY, AND 1,000 WAS PLACED IN THE GROUP SAVINGS- A SOLID FOUNDATION FOR CONTINUED GROWTH.
  3. $6,245 spent. KIMBILIO SEAMSTRESS VOCATION SCHOOL - IN 2025, SAIDIANA CONGO FORMALIZED A PARTNERSHIP WITH KIMBILIO COUTURE, A KEY POINT OF DISCUSSION AT THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING. AS PART OF THIS COLLABORATION, WOMEN LAUREATES RECEIVED TARGETED TRAINING IN THE FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT OF INCOME-GENERATING ACTIVITIES (IGAS). THIS CAPACITY-BUILDING INVESTMENT EQUIPS OUR BENEFICIARIES WITH THE PRACTICAL SKILLS NEEDED TO MANAGE AND GROW THEIR BUSINESSES SUSTAINABLY. FOUR WOMEN WERE TRAINED THIS YEAR AND RECEIVED A SEWING MACHINE AND A STARTER KIT OF FABRIC AND ESSENTIALS TO START THEIR BUSINESSES. TOTAL COST OF THE PROGRAM: 6,245
  4. THE REST OF OUR PROGRAM FUNDING WAS USED TO SUPPORT STAFF IN THE CONGO WHO TEACH, SUPPORT AND CONSULT WITH THE SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS/ENTREPRENEURIAL COOPERATIVE. THEY ARE CRITICAL TO THE SUCCESSFUL OPERATIONS OF OUR NON-PROFIT ON THE GROUND IN THE CONGO.
