- $758.3 million spent. The International Trachoma Initiative (ITI) works tirelessly for a world free from trachoma. ITI contributes to eliminating trachoma as a public health threat by stewarding Pfizer's donation of azithromycin to treat and prevent the condition; building and strengthening partnerships to accelerate progress; and developing innovative tools to share data. Between September 2024 and August 2025, ITI organized just-in-time shipments of 44.6 million treatments for trachoma to be distributed at MDAs in 12 countries. As of August 2025, ITI has shipped more than 1.117 billion treatments to trachoma-endemic countries since the program's inception in 1999. ITI continued its data management support for Tropical Data, a free mobile phone-based service to support trachoma programs as they conduct prevalence surveys, providing them with robust data for decision-making on where antibiotic treatments are needed and where they can be stopped. Since its inception in February 2016, Tropical Data has supported over 4,136 surveys across 55 countries. As a key player in the global trachoma community, there have been tremendous achievements in reducing the population at risk of blindness from trachoma from an estimated 1.5 billion people in 2002 to 97.1 million in November 2025 according to the World Health Organization (WHO). ITI will continue to work smarter so that the dream of a trachoma-free world becomes a reality. In addition to ITI's work in trachoma, ITI was awarded a grant from the Gates Foundation in August 2024 to expand into the donation of azithromycin for child survival. Between September 2024 and August 2025, ITI organized just-in-time shipments of 22.8 million treatments for child survival to be distributed at MDAs in 3 countries.
- $13.8 million spent. Mectizan Donation Program In 2025, 349.1 million treatments were approved for mass drug administration (MDA) for onchocerciasis and lymphatic filariasis (LF) elimination in 36 countries and territories. The breakdown of treatments approved is as follows: 1) 240.9 million for onchocerciasis only including 30.6 million treatments approved to implement a second round of treatment in 8 countries (Brazil, Burkina Faso, DRC, Ethiopia, Malawi, Togo, Uganda and Venezuela). 2) 29.9 million for onchocerciasis & LF co-endemic communities. 3) 78.3 million for LF only, of which 51.4 million were approved for 11 countries and territories implementing triple therapy with ivermectin, DEC, and albendazole (IDA). The number of treatments approved in 2025 decreased compared with previous years. This decline is not only attributable to the downscaling of the LF programme, but also to the decision to implement only a single treatment round for onchocerciasis instead of two in Ghana, Tanzania, and Togo, following USAID-NTD funding cuts and a missed campaign in Mozambique and Angola. 2025, total shipments were down to 737.6 million tablets. This decrease was driven not only by the large number of tablets remaining in inventory after the 2024 annual mass drug administrations (MDAs) in countries (138.4 million tablets), but also by the deferral to 2026 of 179.7 million tablets originally scheduled for shipment in 2025 due to operational challenges in Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mali, Sudan, and the Philippines By the end of 2025, cumulative shipments of Mectizan 3 mg tablets reached 14.66 billion, representing 5.23 billion treatments since the programme began in 1987. The milestone of 5 billion treatments was celebrated throughout the year.
