What it says it does

Be Available is organized exclusively for charitable purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Its primary exempt purpose is to relieve poverty, housing instability, and human suffering by providing transitional housing, material support, and connection to services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness or housing crisis. Be Available operates from a community-based "help people, help people" model that mobilizes resources to meet basic human needs, restore stability, and build pathways out of crisis. The organization carries out its purpose through direct program delivery, partnership with established public charities serving the same charitable class, and development of technology infrastructure that connects people who need help with people who can provide it.

Financial health

We do not score finances when yearly spending is very small or the return has too little detail. The ratios stop meaning much at that size.

Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (2)
  1. $19,751 spent. The primary program service of Be Available in 2025 was its Affordable Housing Program at 477 Gloria Lane, Oswego, Illinois. Be Available holds the master lease on a single-family residence and operates it as transitional housing for individuals and families experiencing homelessness or housing instability. During 2025, the program served three adults and three children. Program activities include: (i) holding the master lease and paying monthly rent to the property owner; (ii) providing furnishings, household goods, and supplies for resident use; (iii) paying utilities, insurance, and maintenance costs directly; (iv) conducting regular property oversight and inspections; and (v) coordinating programming, services, and support with residents and with partner organizations. The program operates in partnership with Grundy Area PADS, an Illinois 501(c)(3) public charity (EIN 05-0616949) classified under sections 509(a)(1) and 170(b)(1)(A)(vi), which serves the same charitable class. The organizations share no common officers, directors, or substantial contributors, and the partnership is arm's length. Be Available is pursuing title transfer of the property in 2026 to eliminate the master-lease structure and dedicate the full economic margin of the program to its charitable purposes. Be Available has also initiated an application for the Illinois Affordable Housing Tax Credit to support the program.
  2. $3,132 spent. Be Available is developing beavailable.org, a technology platform that supports operational capacity and charitable impact in the community. The platform is in active development and will serve as infrastructure for program delivery, community engagement, and connection between people who need help and people who can provide it, consistent with the organization's "help people, help people" mission.
