Programs described in its return (5)
- $20,496 spent. 8th Grade Expenses - Majority of this expense is related to a field trip 8th graders take to commemorate the end of their journey at Bigelow Middle School. The teachers lead the students in activities that emphasize cooperation and independence, and prepare the students in their journey through young adulthood. Students create life-long bonds with their classmates and gain treasured memories from this experience. The Bigelow helps fund the trip so that all students can afford to attend this invaluable and unforgettable event.
- $14,612 spent. Parents of Performing Students (POPS) - Founded in 2008 by dedicated parents, POPS supports the performing arts at Bigelow Middle School through advocacy, fundraising, coordination, and volunteer efforts. The program helps create inclusive opportunities for students in Drama, Orchestra, Chorus, and Band-encouraging creativity, collaboration, and confidence through performance. POPS Fundraising is essential to help cover technical and production needs for the Drama program, as well as stage and auditorium improvements that benefit all performing arts groups. Beyond performing, students gain valuable skills by helping manage events, promote performances, and handle ticket sales. These experiences build leadership, teamwork, and a deeper appreciation for the performing arts-all while building a stronger, more connected school community.
- $12,649 spent. PTO Community - Bigelow PTO is dedicated to provide support to the community and promote the core values of the Bigelow Middle School; it has raised funds to support programs such as FORJ (Families Organizing for Racial Justice), Newton Serves and other community outreach programs.
- $7,408 spent. Creative Arts & Sciences: Provides curriculum-related enrichment programs at Bigelow Middle School. The Bigelow Middle School Parent-Teacher Organization funds these programs, which aligns with the common core state standards, Massachusetts curriculum frameworks, and Newton curriculum's system-wide goals and core values. These programs enrich student experiences in art, English language arts, history and social sciences, music, physical education and the sciences.
