- $62,965 spent. Today's DAR is a thriving women's service organization that focuses on work in local communities to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism. The Irondequoit Chapter's DAR House, also known as the Hervey Ely House, stands as a good example of how the DAR works in the area of historic preservation. Our organization promotes historic preservation, education, and patriotism.-Education: Each year we award a $3,600.00 scholarship to a graduating student in Monroe County School system. These funds are pulled from one of our investment accounts that are strictly used for our Polly F. Burke Scholarship.-Historic Preservation: We continue to maintain our 1836 Hervey Ely Mansion that is on the National Register of Historic Places.-Patriotism: Irondequoit Chapter promotes patriotism in many ways. For 2025 we created displays at the Rundel Library to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the Marquis de Lafayette's return to America in 1825. Members worked with City Historian Christine Ridarsky to create display cases at Rundel library. The Exhibit showcased the history in America from the assistance of the Marquis de Lafayette in the American Revolution and his return to America 50 years later as the only surviving General from the American Revolution. The exhibits went on display from May 2025 through December 2025.-Community: Each year we do food collections tor local food banks and we also collect winter outer wear that is donated to the Tonawanda and Cattaragus Indian Reservations.
