Financial health

We do not score finances when yearly spending is very small or the return has too little detail. The ratios stop meaning much at that size.

Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (5)
  1. $12,994 spent. Advocacy: BkCs advocacy work during 2025 continued with our family friendly, free events geared to educating and engaging the public in watershed focused experiences. We kicked off the year with our Annual Meeting and Speaker Series, and presented Bill Throops book, Flourishing in the Age of Climate Change at the Greenwich Free Library. Over 50 people attended. In April we assisted the NYS DEC with trout stocking days; In August we worked with the Washington County Federation of Sportsmen to offer our macroinvertebrate PICKY BUG Table at the Washington County Fair; and in October, we hosted a Fire & Water Festival at the Battenkill Riverside Park with three local musical bands, a food trucks and kids friendly activities including a cold plunge sauna activity. BkC requested Consulting Party status with the NYS DOT as it relates to the Battenville Bridge changes.
  2. Education: BkC's Discover Your Battenkill for Middle School Program hosted 10 youth for 3 days of environmental education and team building at our Schmidt Meadow Preserve. The Program introduces students to the watershed, teaches water safety skills, hiking basics and environmental lessons on site and at locations throughout the watershed. Our Annual Meeting and Speaker Series brought to the public, William Throops Flourishing in the Age of Climate Change for a presenta on and interactive discussion.
  3. Conservation: BkC three fee owned properties (the Preserves) are located within the New York section of the watershed. All three provide public access, riparian protection, wildlife habitat protection, flood resiliency and have a direct positive impact on water quality. BkC also holds a conservation easement on a 50 acre riverfront property in the town of Jackson. BkC also partnered with the Washington County Sportsman Federation to present exhibits at the Washington County Fairgrounds during the County Fair. The improved visibility of our table ensured the exhibit was seen by thousands of attendees going through the DECs building.
  4. 2025 Capacity Building: In 2025, BkC continued to rebuild its board and promote strong governance by recruiting and engaging new members, volunteers and board potentials. At year end 2025, we had 4 official board members, one coming on board at year end 2025 and 4 candidates we continue to engage as volunteers and advisory members.
  5. River Watch Water Quality Committee: In 2025, newly appointed board members established a Water Quality Committee to refocus BkCs efforts to establish an active water quality program. As part of this initiative, BkC will work with Washington Countys Soil & Water District and the Hudson River Estuary Program to create a DAY IN THE LIFE of the Battenkill for Cambridge, Salem andGreenwich schools.
