Programs described in its return (1)
  1. $9.1 million spent. Our 24/25 mainstage season showcased four new powerful and thought-provoking plays. Over the course of the season, we produced "WE LIVE IN CAIRO", by the Lazours, "A KNOCK ON THE ROOF" by Khawla Ibraheem, "BECOMING EVE" by Emil Weinstein, and "LIGHTS OUT: NAT "KING" COLE" by Colman Domingo and Patricia McGregor. Over 218 live performances we welcomed 29,037 audience members. In tandem with our productions, our Artist Workshop Programs provided support to over 400 artists and supported 60 projects at various stages of development through a variety of initiatives. These included our Dorothy Strelsin Mondays @ 3 Readings, Summer Residencies at Dartmouth College and Adelphi University, Jonathan Larson developmental Labs, and play commissions. We also continued to support five emerging theater companies through our Companies-in-Residence program, offering them administrative resources, fiscal sponsorship, artistic feedback, professional mentorship, performance opportunities, and rehearsal space, as needed. NYTW also looked to the future of theatre, reaching nearly 2,000 people annually through our wrap-around Education Programs, which included Learning Workshop, our in-school residencies for six NYC public schools, Mind the Gap, an intergenerational playwriting program for elders (60+) and teens (ages 14-19), Youth Artistic Instigators, an afterschool program for empowering teenagers to create activist theatre, and our administrative fellowship and training program dedicated to diversifying and empowering theatre practitioners and administrative workers. Guided by a desire to build authentic relationships with hyper-local communities, we invite audiences to not only witness our work, but to engage in dialogue and celebration with us through For the Culture (FTC). FTC reached 2,145 individuals last year. Also focused on increasing our access, our Cheaptix program offers $25 tickets to seniors, young adults, Lower East Side and East Village residents, and artists. So far this season, the program has allowed us to subsidize $14,675 worth of tickets and welcome over 721 audience members from our local community.
