Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (3)
  1. $97,000 spent. In 2023 Music From Japan presented two concerts on March 4 and 5. The one featured Japanese vocal works and the other showcased compositions of Yoshihiro Kanno, Madoka Mori and Akira Ito. 3 composers and 2 lecturers were invited from Japan. 14 US based musicians were engaged.
  2. $7,000 spent. On March 4 and 5, pre-concert lectures were given by a curator and a musicologist as well as post-concert forums with commissioned composers, and lecturers from Japan and US composer-performers. On March 1, Ms. Mori and Mr. Kanno gave a composition seminar for Columbia University's music students.
  3. $18,000 spent. Music From Japan's Resource Center for Japanese Music provides information on Japanese music and culture in English on its website and through its library of scores, recordings and books. The Center needs regular maintenance as new materials are added and old systems are updated.
