- $12,821 spent. The Community Oriented Policing section (COPS) programs, support the Alex. Police Dept. (APD) officers working with at risk youth and families in the city to foster an atmosphere of communication and cooperation to improve the overall quality of life for both the youth and their families. The officers engage directly with disadvantaged youth thru meaningful community projects, fun recreational activities and rewards to acknowledge academic effort and achievement. This regular positive interaction between the officers and Alexandria's youth is critical to building trust, promotion of meaningful relationships and ensuring positive outcomes. This benefits not only the children served by the program, but to the entire Alexandria community as well. This includes Community Police Academy $1312, APD mentoring youth $2674, community cookouts & movies $1730, Christmas shop with a cop $6847 and Soccer program $258.
- $10,000 spent. Alexandria Police Youth Camp donation to send Alexandria kids to the camp for a week of bonding with other kids and officers, recrecational activities and for many their first camping experience.
- $8,279 spent. The APF continues their program of ensuring the ongoing care of the K9 dogs in their retirement. The current years medical costs under our "self insured program" for the retired K9 was $6051, Food allowance $2000, Misc $228.
- $4,050 spent. Department Initiatives to foster officer morale. Includes Police week memorial service, tuition assistance program and the HEROES, Inc tournament.
