Financial health

We do not score finances when yearly spending is very small or the return has too little detail. The ratios stop meaning much at that size.

Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (4)
  1. In 2022 we continued to grow and expand our reach working with public schools, charter schools, Catholic schools and community organizations. In total we reached over 100 kids during the year and are set up to reach many more in 2023.
  2. Twist and Shout School of the Performing Arts, a not-for-profit 501 c 3 organization focusing on reaching out to youth in Chicago in disadvantaged communities, has had a successful year in 2023 which saw growth in our program offerings, new community partners, and a positive effect on more kid's lives. In 2023, Twist and Shout expanded our reach into Chicago communities, working with more community organizations, and provide in school educational programs at schools in need of quality after school programs. Communities We Made An Impact In: Twist and Shout brought dance, chess, bicycle and fitness programs to schools in Pilsen, Grand Crossing, Englewood, and the West Pullman neighborhoods. Partners We Collaborated With: Twist and Shout worked with many community partners this year including Pilsen Wellness Center, Family Focus, Communities In Schools, Eye Love You, Ingenuity, Chicago Chess Foundation, Chicago Chess Center Chicago Archdiocese, and CPS Academic Chess. These organizations have helped us to work in schools in their communities. Program Accomplishments: Twist and Shout worked with Communities In Schools in 2022 to provide full semester long Dance programs at no charge to schools in need in the South Side of Chicago. The expenses for these programs were paid by Twist and Shout. We greatly expanded our reach in chess instruction with a presence at many more schools. We hired several more chess instructors to serve these students. Through our fundraisers, Twist and Shout was able to raise enough money to buy more equipment to better serve the students in our classes. We invested in more chess boards, tablets, fitness equipment and bike parts to expand our services and increase the quality of the services we provide. This has allowed us to hire more teachers and provide more classes.
  3. Twist and Shout continued to grow as an organization in 2024. We worked in more schools teaching chess, dance, fitness and bicycle mechanics. We also needed to hire more instructors to handle the class load. In addition to school programs, we ran several summer camps in chess, fitness and bicycle mechanic training. We also worked with several local artists to create a song writing class. Our hard work paid off and we attained a grant to do a song writing program in 2025.
  4. In 2025 we expanded our services working with new organizations and offering new classes, and ultimately reaching more students. We created a new music production and song writing class where we worked with local artists and a recording studio. We also added a technology component to our creative offering when we did a summer camp that focused on animation and story telling utilizing AI prompts to help write the story. Our chess teams did well with one school winning the team city championship. We organized a chess tournament with the Catholic schools that we coach at. We continue to network with teachers, artists and role models that can help us expend into new areas in 2026.
